Blinds & the Summer Heat
How do blinds cut down the heat in my home?
Glass. It’s everywhere. And many Queensland homes have large, and many, windows. This allows for beautiful natural light, breezes to flow through our homes, and gives us the feeling of being a part of the outdoors. Love it, right?
Unfortunately though, a lot of heat penetrates those nice big windows, and once inside, it has a little bit of trouble getting out.
It is particularly bad where you get the afternoon, western sun. And almost as bad in the morning eastern sun.
But there are great products that you can use to cut down this intense heat.
- Shutters – definantly one of the better option. Shutters insultation very well, and they also allow for breezes to float through your open window while the blades are partly tilted open.
- Roller Blinds – some brilliant fabrics are completely made for this purpose. They let in natural light, and you can still see your view, but they block those nasty UV rays and cut down heat dramatically.
- External Blinds – this is the best option for those particularly hot windows, as an external blind will stop the heat from touching the glass in the first place. This will make a world of difference.
- All other blinds/curtains – really anything will help. Any type of layer to block the heat from entering the room. The thicker the layer, the better the insulation. Easy really.
You can also consider other options, like tinting your glass. This can work in well with any of the above options as well.
Your need for heat reduction will be discussed at your in-home consultation.
